Preserve your moments with film scanning
At among the grain, we don't just convert film to digital; we preserve the heart and soul of your images. Discover a scanning service that understands the unique beauty of film.

Why choose Among the Grain for film scanning?
Your film is handled by someone who actively shoots film themselves and understands the look, texture, and feeling people are usually hoping to preserve — not just someone running negatives through a machine. I approach scanning as part of the creative process, not just file conversion. My goal is to preserve the feeling, color, grain, and atmosphere of your film while delivering scans that are ready to archive, print, or share.
The film enthusiast's touch
As a fellow film shooter, I bring an understanding of film's unique qualities to every scan.

We focus on maintaining the texture, color, and grain that make your film distinct.
Ready for anything
Your high-resolution scans are optimized for sharing, printing, and long-term archiving.
Who benefits from my film scanning services?
Our scanning services are most commonly used by film hobbyists, photographers, and people looking to preserve older negatives or disposable camera memories digitally. Some clients shoot film regularly but prefer outsourcing the scanning process, while others simply want thoughtful, high-quality scans without investing in expensive equipment or learning a complex workflow.

Step 1: Mail or drop off your film
Start by mailing your film rolls or negatives to me.
PO Box 754, Clarksville, MD 21029.
After reaching out, I’ll confirm your order details, scanning preferences, pricing, and estimated turnaround time.
Step 2: Scanning & processing
Once received, I carefully scan each roll with attention to color, grain, and the overall feel of the film while keeping the character of the stock intact.
Scans are created using a Canon CanoScan 9000F Mark II.
Standard Resolution scans are scanned at 1200 DPI, ideal for sharing online, digital archives, and prints up to approximately 8×10.
High-resolution scans are created at up to 2400 DPI, ideal for printing up to approximately 16×20 from 35mm film, with larger sizes possible depending on the quality of the original negative.
Step 3: Editing & file preparation
Basic dust cleanup and light tonal adjustments are included to ensure your scans are clean, balanced, and ready to share or print.
Files are exported and organized for easy viewing, downloading, and long-term storage.
Step 4: Invoice and digital delivery
Once scanning is complete, an invoice will be sent digitally for the remaining balance. Payment can be made securely online before final delivery.
Your finished scans are then delivered through an online gallery or download link within the listed turnaround time.
Step 5: Return shipping (optional)
If requested, your negatives can be safely mailed back to you after scanning is complete.
