Behind the lens of among the grain

I take an authentic approach to photography, focused on reflecting your genuine self and the moment taking place, creating images that feel natural, honest, and more than just photographs.

One of my favorite quotes is,

I'll often say this quote to myself and it's a reminder that guides how I approach photographing people.

Still showing up even when life is messy is where authenticity lives, and that’s where photographs start to feel real. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable enough to let your true self shine through.

Trust that the moments happening are already enough.

I want you to show up exactly as you are: not polished, not perfect, not performing. Messy, complicated, unsure, confident, quiet, expressive—all of it belongs.

The Approach

 authenticity

   genuine self

 not just photos

My work is calm, honest. It's rooted in observing and highlighting the small moments that often pass without notice.

To make the client feel in tune with themselves, I let them play whatever music fits their current mood or mood of the session.

Stay personal and true.

I focus on creating natural portraits that feel honest and unforced. I make space for movement, conversation, and genuine expression.

Rather than directing every detail, I offer gentle guidance and let people settle into the experience.

Embrace the moment and see what comes.

I want people to feel a sense of ease and familiarity when they visit this page, are in front of my camera, and see their final images.

Each session is approached thoughtfully, creating images and moments that feel purposeful and that hold their meaning when you look back.

  Live in purposeful images.

Working with among the grain "felt good! I felt very at ease and relaxed the whole time and Julie did an amazing job.”

-Lily

"I was very comfortable and Julie just let me be my authentic self. Such a fun shoot!  The pictures came out so well. I loved how she used different cameras to capture each moment."
